Taylor Haag totally understands why Love Is Blind fans thought she and Daniel Hastings were the perfect match in season 8—after all, she thought so too. At first.
(Warning: Spoilers ahead for Love Is Blind season 8!)
In an interview with Glamour published on Sunday, February 16—just two days after the season premiered on Netflix—Haag, 32, opened up about what really went wrong between her and Hastings, especially regarding their social media drama on the show.
The tension started in episode 4 when Haag asked Hastings if he had ever followed her on Instagram during their fourth date. His response? A firm denial. “I can’t imagine that I do,” he said, explaining that he has a weird memory for Instagram handles. “I can see the person’s profile picture in my head… I would recognize your Instagram handle, and I don’t.”
But something about his answer just didn’t sit right with Haag. After they got engaged sight unseen and finally met in person, she started having doubts.
“The biggest issue for me was the possibility that he knew what I looked like before the experiment,” she told Glamour. “I’m guilty of judging people by their looks, and I know that’s happened to me, too. But I wanted that to be completely removed from this experience. So the idea that this fundamental part of the process might have been compromised was terrifying.”
Haag pressed Hastings again on the Instagram question, and again, he denied it. That’s where episode 6 left off, leaving fans on the edge of their seats—did Hastings actually see Haag online before the show?
Of course, Haag didn’t spoil what happens next, but she did reflect on the experience and the social media drama. “I’ve had a lot of anxiety about this part of the story because I knew it would be a bigger deal than it actually was at the time,” she admitted. “It was in the teaser, it was in the trailer—I knew it would be a major storyline for me. But honestly, I feel like it’s been overhyped.”
She also shared why the idea that Hastings might have followed her really got under her skin. “At that moment, we were operating on such limited information,” she explained. “We didn’t have our phones, we couldn’t talk to friends or family for advice, and we were running on minimal sleep and pure adrenaline.”
Meanwhile, Love Is Blind fans had another reason to celebrate this Valentine’s Day—February 14, 2025, marked the five-year anniversary of the hit Netflix reality series.
Season 8, which was filmed in Minnesota in March 2024, is currently streaming on Netflix. The first six episodes are available now, with episodes 7-9 dropping on February 21 and episodes 10-11 debuting on February 28.
Stay tuned—there’s still plenty of drama to unfold!
