Amit Shah (Born on 22 October 1964, Maharashtra, India) is an Indian politician and currently the Home Minister of India. He is the ex-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from January 9, 2014, to January 20, 2020.

He was elected to the lower house of Parliament, in the 2019 Lok Sabha, Indian general elections from the Gandhi Nagar constituency. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha of Gujarat till 2016. Amit Shah is considered to be the BJP’s chief strategist and close associate of Narendra Modi.

In 2016, he was considered the mastermind of the BJP’s victory in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Gujarat, the party’s modern base. That year, the BJP was able to sit in the masnad of Manipur for the first time since the assembly elections in the relatively small state of Manipur, but the Akali – BJP alliance lost control of the relatively large state of Punjab.

In 2016, the party lost the assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The following year, he won 303 seats in the 17th Lok Sabha elections, earning Amit Shah the title of the party’s most successful president.

After being appointed as the Home Minister of India in the second term of the Modi 2.0 government, he took a major decision to remove Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and make the Jammu and Kashmir union territory of India.

Amit Shah Biography

Amit Shah was born on 22 October 1964, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Shah came from a wealthy Gujarati Hindu Vaishnava family, who were Baniyas. His great-grandfather was the Nagarsheth of the state of Manasa. His father Anil Chandra Shah was a businessman in Mansa and established himself in the PVC pipe business.

Although he attended Mehsana School, he went to Ahmedabad to study biochemistry at CU Shah Science College. He started working in his father’s business after graduating in biochemistry. He has worked as a stock market consultant in Ahmedabad and in a cooperative bank there.

He has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since childhood. He was associated with its various organs from his boyhood. He officially joined as its “volunteer” while studying at a college in Ahmedabad.

He met Narendra Modi in 1982 through the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Modi was then the “propagandist” of the RSS and in charge of the youth wing of its city branch.

He is a passionate chess player, chairman of the Gujarat State Chess Association, and, during his ministry in Gujarat, initiated a pilot project to introduce chess lessons at the government schools in Ahmedabad. Political Career

Shah joined the BJP in 1987. In 1987, he was made a member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Shah got his first major political opportunity in 1991 when he took over the election campaign for Advani in the Gandhi Nagar parliamentary constituency.

The second opportunity came in 1996 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee decided to contest from Gujarat. In this election too, he took charge of the election campaign. A stockbroker by profession Amit Shah started his political career by winning the by-election from the Sarkhej assembly seat in Gujarat in 1997.

In 1999, he was elected President of Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank (ADCB). In 2009, he became the vice-president of the Gujarat Cricket Association. He became the President of the Gujarat Cricket Association after Narendra Modi quit as President in 2014. From 2003 to 2010, he held the charge of Home Ministry in the Cabinet of the Government of Gujarat.

He represented the Sarkhej Legislative Assembly constituency three times before contesting his assembly election from the Narnupara Legislative Assembly constituency in 2012. He has been elected MLA from Sarkhej Assembly Constituency in Gujarat four times since 1997 (by-election), 1998, 2002, and 2007 respectively.

He is considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shah made headlines when Pranesh was killed along with 19-year-old Ishrat Jahan, Zeeshan Johar, and Amjad Ali Rana in an alleged fake encounter on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in 2004.

Gujarat police had claimed that they had come to kill Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to avenge the post-Godhra riots in 2002. In this case, Gopinath Pillai had made an application in the court and appealed to make Amit Shah an accused in the case.

However, on 15 May 2014, a special CBI court dismissed the petition for lack of sufficient evidence against Shah. There was a time when he faced arrest on 25 July 2010 in the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh. Shah’s biggest attack on charges was by his own special officer, who suspended DG Banjara of Gujarat Police.

About 10 months before the sixteenth Lok Sabha election, Shah was made in charge of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Uttar Pradesh on June 12, 2013, when the BJP had only 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state. His organizational skills and leadership abilities were gauged when the sixteenth Lok Sabha election results came on 16 May 2014.

The BJP secured 71 seats in Uttar Pradesh. This was the biggest victory of the BJP in the state so far. Amit Shah, the architect of this charismatic victory, increased so much within the party that he got the Bharatiya Janata Party Chairmanship post was conferred.
