Yami Gautam was born on November 28, 1988, in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, India. She was born into an upper-middle-class Hindu Brahmin family. Yami Gautam father, Mukesh Gautam is an Indian Punjabi-language film director and also the vice president of the PTC Punjabi network.

Yami Gautam mother, Anjali Gautam, was a former school teacher. She grew up in Chandigarh with her parents. Yami Gautam has a sister Surilie Gautam, who is an Indian film and television actress. Surilie Gautam made her film career debut with the Punjabi romantic comedy film, Power Cut (2012).

She completed her early education at a private school in Chandigarh. After completing school she attended Panjab University for did Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree. As a young girl, she always wanted to become an Indian Administrative Services (IAS).

After the first year of Law Honours, at the age of 20, she decided to leave full-time studies and pursue her career in the acting line. Later, she completed her part-time graduation from Mumbai.

On 4 June 2021, Yami Gautam married Aditya Dhar in Himachal Pradesh, India. Aditya Dhar is a popular Indian film director, screenwriter, and lyricist. Yami falls in love with him because “he values his family, which is extremely important to Yami.

In 2019, Yami and Aditya met while shooting the military action thriller film Uri: The Surgical Strike, which marked Aditya’s directorial debut with Bollywood actress Yami, where she played Jasmine D’Almeida / Pallavi Sharma, an undercover RAW agent.

At the age of 20, she moved to Mumbai with her family to pursue her career in Bollywood movies. She made her Indian television series debut in Chand Ke Paar Chalo, which aired on NDTV Imagine from 29 September 2008 to 12 February 2009 at 10:30 pm.

Later, she played her most notable role in the television series, Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam, which aired on Colors TV. In addition, she also participated in the reality shows Meethi Choori No 1 and Kitchen Champion Season 1.

Gautam made her Bollywood debut in Shoojit Sircar’s romantic comedy film Vicky Donor (2012). In 2019, Gautam’s biggest success came when She starred in Aditya Dhar’s military action thriller URI: The Surgical Strike, opposite Vicky Kaushal, Paresh Rawal, Mohit Raina, and Kirti Kulhari.

The movie is based on the 2016 URI attack Gautam played the character named Pallavi Sharma, a nurse turned intelligence agent. Shortly after its release, the film turned out to be one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time, grossing over ₹3.36 billion ($54 million) worldwide.

From February 2021, Gautam began shooting for a social comedy film Dasvi, which was produced by Dinesh Vijan, alongside Abhishek Bachchan and Nimrat Kaur.
