Conan O’Brien and the Academy Award statuette, Oscar, are redefining the wedding vow “for better or worse.”
In a whimsical new promotional video for the Oscars released on Thursday, the duo, who are humorously portrayed as a married couple, seem to be experiencing some difficulties in their relationship. O’Brien, this year’s host of the Academy Awards, appears to be quite dissatisfied with their situation.
“When we first met, we only shared laughter,” O’Brien expresses in frustration to the unresponsive Oscar while they are in their kitchen. “When was the last time you found something I said amusing? Other award statues think I’m hilarious!”
As the clip progresses, O’Brien voices his grievances about Oscar monopolizing all the power outlets, Oscar’s disapproval of their kitchen’s design, and his predicament of having to eat leftovers “once more.”
“What has happened to us?” O’Brien laments. “I apologize for not being an iconic award!”
The situation escalates when O’Brien receives a phone call from Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, who requests to speak with Oscar instead.
This amusing promotional video serves as the first teaser for the upcoming Academy Awards, which will be broadcast early next month. O’Brien will host the prestigious ceremony for the first time.
The 2025 Oscars are scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and will be aired live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
