Toyota Teases Its Next Supercar: The GR-Badged Successor to the LFA

Toyota is once again proving that its passion for performance cars is alive and well. After years of rumors and camouflaged test sightings, the Japanese automaker has finally teased its next-generation GR-badged supercar with a bold billboard reveal at Fuji Speedway in Japan.

The billboard shows three iconic models side by side — the legendary Toyota 2000GT, the Lexus LFA, and a mysterious new coupe bearing the GR (Gazoo Racing) logo. The teaser image gives us a glimpse of a sharp LED headlight, a trapezoidal grille, and aggressive air vents ahead of the front wheels, hinting at a design that blends heritage with cutting-edge aerodynamics.

Toyota also launched a dedicated countdown website leading up to a major announcement on Monday. The event will include updates across several Toyota brands, including Lexus, GR, Daihatsu, and the Century subbrand — but the spotlight is expected to be on this highly anticipated supercar.

While the teaser carries a Toyota badge, industry insiders believe the production version will likely be launched globally under the Lexus nameplate, serving as a successor to the discontinued RC

and RC F GT3 race car. This aligns with comments made by David Wilson, former president of Toyota Racing Development (TRD), who confirmed years ago that the company was developing a new high-performance coupe that would also underpin a GT3 race car.

The upcoming model shares visual DNA with the Toyota GR GT3 concept first revealed at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. Since then, test prototypes resembling that concept have been spotted testing in Southern California and on the Nürburgring, as well as making a dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it ran in both road and track forms under camouflage.

Under the hood, reports suggest that this future supercar will feature a twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with hybrid assistance, delivering electrified performance worthy of Toyota’s motorsport pedigree.

With the official reveal expected in just days, all eyes are now on Toyota — and enthusiasts are eager to see whether this machine can truly live up to the legacy of the LFA and the 2000GT before it.
