The Tony Awards 2024 took place on 16 June night at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. Hosted by Oscar and Tony award winner Ariana DeBose for the third time, the evening was a celebration of Broadway’s finest.
Big Winners of the Night
The Daniel Aukin-directed play Stereophonic, set in the ’70s and revolving around a fictional band, emerged as the night’s biggest winner, securing five Tony Awards including Best Direction and Best Play.
The Outsiders, a musical adaptation co-produced by Angelina Jolie and based on the S.E. Hinton novel, won four awards. Merrily We Roll Along, starring first-time Tony winners Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff, also garnered four awards.
Memorable Performances
The event was highlighted by stunning performances from various casts. Notable acts included numbers by Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendez from Merrily We Roll Along, Pete Townsend and the cast of The Who’s Tommy, and Alicia Keys and Jay-Z with the cast of Hell’s Kitchen. Eddie Redmayne also performed with the cast of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club.
First-Time Tony Awards Winners
The evening celebrated numerous first-time Tony winners, such as Sarah Paulson for Appropriate, Jeremy Strong for An Enemy of the State, and Kecia Lewis for the Alicia Keys-produced musical Hell’s Kitchen.
