Tara Sutaria was born on 19 November 1995, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India into a Zoroastrian Parsi family. Tara’s father, Himanshu Sutaria is a banker, and her mother, Tina Sutaria is a housewife. She has a non-identical twin sister named Pia Sutaria.
Tara and her twin sister Pia trained together in classical ballet, modern dance, and Latin American dance at the School of Classical Ballet and Western Dance, the Royal Academy of Dance, United Kingdom, and the Imperial Society for Teachers of Dancing, United Kingdom.

She made her film debut in 2019 with Punit Malhotra’s teen romantic comedy-drama film, Student of the Year 2 alongside Tiger Shroff and Ananya Panday. But the film was not successful at the box office.
