Spencer Milligan, Star of ‘Land of the Lost,’ Dies at 86

At the age of 86, actor Spencer Milligan, well remembered for his role as Rick Marshall in the children’s television series “Land of the Lost,” has passed away.

According to an obituary on the website of the funeral home in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, where Milligan resided, he was born on September 10, 1937, in Oak Park, Illinois, and passed away on April 18.

Before relocating to California, where he lived for most of the 1970s to the mid-1990s, his stage career began in Illinois.

He portrayed his most well-known character during this time, showing up in 30 “Land of the Lost” episodes between 1974 and 1975.

His persona, Rick Marshall, acted as a devoted father to Holly Marshall (Kathy Coleman) and Will Marshall (Wesley Eure), helping the family live on a lost planet where dinosaurs and other odd creatures are called.

Later, Milligan made cameos in numerous period TV series and motion pictures, such as “Police Squad,” “The Dukes of Hazzard,” and “The Bionic Woman.”

Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, a little city on the Door Peninsula near Lake Michigan, was where he would frequently spend his summers.

He first met Kerry there in 1991, and the two got married there in 2002. Co-stars of Milligan’s “Land of the Lost,” Eure and Coleman, honored their pal in a Facebook video.

“We were all best friends,” said Eure. “He was a great man,” said Coleman. “He will be missed.”
