RuPaul is a popular American drag queen, singer, actor, producer, writer, and television personality who has become an iconic figure in the LGBTQ+ community and the entertainment industry. He has produced, hosted, and judged the American reality competition television series “RuPaul’s Drag Race”.
He has been described as the “Queen of Drag” and is considered the most commercially successful drag queen in the United States. American Global Business magazine, Fortune says that he is “easily the world’s most famous drag queen”.
RuPaul achieved international fame as a drag queen with the release of his debut single, “Supermodel (You Better Work)”, which was included in his debut studio album “Supermodel of the World” (1993). The success of the album marked RuPaul as a prominent figure in the dance and LGBTQ+ music scenes.

RuPaul serves as the host, mentor, and executive producer of the show, earning multiple Emmy Awards for his role. He has also featured as a host on other reality series, such as “RuPaul’s Drag U” (2010-12), “Skin Wars” (2014-16), “Good Work” (2015), and “Gay for Play Game Show Starring RuPaul” (2016-17).
RuPaul has also appeared in films, including “Crooklyn” (1994), “The Brady Bunch Movie” (1995), To Wong Foo, “Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar” (1995), and “But I’m a Cheerleader” (1999). Television series, including “Girlboss” (2017), “Broad City” (2017), and “Grace and Frankie” (2019).
RuPaul has received numerous awards, throughout his acting and singing career, including 12 Primetime Emmy Awards, 3 GLAAD Media Awards, a Critics’ Choice Television Award, 2 Billboard Music Awards, and a Tony Award.
In 1994, RuPaul met an Australian painter and author Georges LeBar at the Limelight nightclub in New York City. In January 2017, RuPaul married Georges LeBar.
