She is best known for her portrayal of Detective Olivia Benson in the longest-running American police procedural crime drama television series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (1999-present), which earned her an Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.
On 28 August 2004, Mariska Hargitay married an American actor Peter Hermann in Santa Barbara, California, whom she met during the shooting of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”. The couple have three children together, two of whom are adopted.
