Lucid’s DreamDrive Pro Elevates EVs with Hands-Free Driving and Lane-Change Assist

Lucid Motors just dropped some exciting news for its customers: starting July 30, Lucid Air owners with the optional DreamDrive Pro package will get access to a new hands-free driving mode through a free over-the-air (OTA) update.

This new feature, called Hands-Free Drive Assist, allows your Lucid Air to drive itself on certain highways, no hands needed. It works using a mix of high-tech sensors, including LiDAR, radar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors to keep your car safely on the road. Want to switch lanes? Just tap the turn signal and your Lucid will handle it.

“With our custom-built software and 32 powerful sensors, we’re just getting started,” said Kai Stepper, Lucid’s Vice President of ADAS and Autonomous Driving. “There’s much more to come through future updates.”

So, What’s the Catch?

While the hands-free update is free, it only works if your car already has the DreamDrive Pro system, and that’s where things can get expensive. Here’s a quick breakdown of the pricing depending on the Lucid Air model:

ModelStarting PriceDreamDrive Pro CostOther Required PackagesTotal Cost for DreamDrive Features
Air Pure (RWD)$71,400$6,750$2,500 Comfort + Convenience$9,250
Air Touring (AWD)$80,400$6,750$3,000 (estimated)$9,750
Grand Touring (AWD)$112,400$6,750None$6,750
Sapphire$250,500IncludedIncludedIncluded

So yes, while the hands-free tech is impressive, getting it isn’t exactly cheap unless you’re going for the high-end models.

What About the Gravity SUV?

Lucid’s upcoming Gravity SUV will also get the hands-free update later this year. However, Lucid hasn’t confirmed an exact release date yet.

Final Thoughts

Lucid is taking a big step forward with this update. The fact that you can now let your car do the driving, on select highways, is both futuristic and super convenient. But it comes at a price. If you already invested in DreamDrive Pro, you’re in for a treat. If not, be ready to spend a bit more for this hands-free luxury.
