Jennifer Aniston Responds to J.D. Vance’s ‘Childless Cat Ladies’ Remark with Her IVF Story

Jennifer Aniston criticized Senator J.D. Vance’s controversial comments, referencing her own IVF journey and fertility struggles, after the viral clip went viral.

“Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day,” Jennifer wrote in an Instagram Story on July 24. The 55-year-old continued by expressing her wish that his daughter wouldn’t have to use in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) or other reproductive treatments “as a second option,” since, in her words, “you are trying to take that away from her, too.”

The video of Vance, which was originally from 2021 and featured him calling Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Vice President Kamala Harris “childless cat ladies,” started making the rounds again after President Joe Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the race and nominate Harris as the Democratic nominee.

“How does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?” In the Fox News clip from July 2021, Vance questioned Tucker Carlson. “We’re effectively run in this country… by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable in their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too.”

What was Aniston’s reply? She has previously spoken candidly about her difficulties with infertility. The actress revealed in 2022 that she underwent infertility treatment for “many years” during her quest to become pregnant.

“I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it,” Aniston said in an interview with Allure. “I was giving it everything I had. If someone had told me to freeze my eggs, I would have donated anything. Give yourself a break. It’s like you don’t think it. I am now at this place. The vessel has departed.”

Aniston remarked that now that the difficult time is over, she feels a “sense of relief.” She said, “I’ve spent so many years protecting my story about IVF.” “I’m so protective of these parts because I feel like there’s so little that I get to keep to myself.” She continued, saying that the world had produced “narratives that aren’t true” and that she felt as though she was emerging from hibernation. Nothing is hidden from me.”
