After months of anticipation, the long-awaited “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie has finally hit theaters. The hype surrounding the film was largely fueled by speculation about the potential cameo appearances in this third installment, serving as a tribute to the now-defunct 20th Century Fox Marvel universe before Disney’s acquisition.
Surpassing rumors from Taylor Swift’s music or Halle Berry’s Instagram, the movie features surprising and unconventional cameos that are sure to impress. Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine come across four unexpected characters in this irreverent comic book blockbuster, offering fans an exciting and entertaining experience at the cinema.
Chris Evans but not as Captain America
In a wild twist in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the duo encounter Chris Evans’ character in the Void, a dump of failed comic book history. The setup hints at Deadpool’s dream of joining the Avengers, leading to a hilarious moment when Evans exclaims “Flame on!” instead of the expected Avengers catchphrase.
Evans transforms into Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch from the “Fantastic Four” films. The scene is chaotic and gory, staying true to the Deadpool franchise’s tone. This unexpected crossover blends Marvel and Fox’s past failures in a gleefully shocking way, making it a memorable moment in the movie.
Wesley Snipes as “Blade”
Wesley Snipes reprises his role as the fierce vampire superhero Blade in the upcoming film “Deadpool & Wolverine.” He joins a team of forgotten heroes, including Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, to battle Cassandra Nova, portrayed by Emma Corrin. Snipes’ Blade acknowledges that he is the only one of his kind, despite rumors of a reboot with Mahershala Ali in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The cameo cameo was inspired by their past collaboration in the Blade trilogy of the late ’90s and early ’00s. Despite delays, the iconic character of Blade remains in the hands of Snipes, who delivered a memorable performance in the original films.
Channing Tatum as “Gambit”
Channing Tatum’s failed superhero movie experiment with the character Gambit at Comic Con 2015 is remembered by many. The standalone movie about the Marvel X-Men superhero, a Cajun card-shark with kinetic energy powers, struggled in development. However, Tatum recently made a surprising cameo in “Deadpool & Wolverine” as part of Blade and Elektra’s group.
Despite Tatum’s extended scenes, the scriptwriters (and Reynolds) poke fun at him. The exploding Gambit card effects are impressive, though. Previously stuck in development purgatory, Tatum’s Gambit finally makes a fun appearance in the superhero movie, showcasing his character’s unique abilities amidst the jokes made at his expense.
Henry Cavill as “Cavillerene”
In an incredible cameo, Deadpool goes on a quest to find Wolverine and comes across a version of Logan played by Henry Cavill, known as Superman. Deadpool assures Cavill that Marvel/Disney will treat him better than DC.
The brief scene is a subtle dig at DC for not retaining Cavill as Superman. Deadpool hints at the rivalry between Marvel/Disney and DC, adding a playful touch to the multiversal adventure in the movie.
