Colin Jost Goes Dumpster Diving After Scarlett Johansson Misplaces Engagement Ring

Colin Jost is proving that love knows no bounds—even if it means sifting through garbage!

During a recent episode of Pop Culture Jeopardy! on Amazon Prime Video, the 42-year-old comedian shared a hilarious story about his wife, Scarlett Johansson, fearing she had lost her engagement ring.

“My wife actually lost her engagement ring,” Jost revealed, per E! News, explaining that Johansson, 40, suspected she had “accidentally thrown it in the trash.”

Determined to retrieve the sentimental piece, Jost went on a mission.

“I looked through 12 dumpsters of trash,” he admitted.

Unfortunately, his efforts were in vain—because the ring wasn’t in the trash after all.

“I went back to the house, and she said, ‘Oops! It was in my pocket,’” he recalled, jokingly adding, “It was a great day for me.”

Jost and Johansson tied the knot in October 2020 and share a son, Cosmo, 3. Johansson also has a 10-year-old daughter, Rose, from her previous marriage to Romain Dauriac.

A Surprising SNL Joke

Jost’s willingness to go above and beyond for Johansson isn’t the only thing that’s had fans talking. He recently revealed that his wife was “genuinely so shocked” by a joke made about her on Saturday Night Live during the annual joke swap segment with co-star Michael Che in December 2024.

During the segment, Jost was forced to read a joke written by Che: “Costco has removed the roast beef sandwich from its menu. I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”

A live feed of Johansson, who was backstage, captured her stunned reaction.

“I was, obviously, surprised by everything, but they gave her a heads-up,” Jost shared during a January 20 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “They were like, ‘Hey, would you be OK if Michael made a little, like, kind of vagina joke at some point?’”

Johansson agreed in principle, but the punchline still caught her off guard.

“I didn’t know where it was going, and then the graphic came up for Arby’s,” Jost recalled. “Scarlett is backstage, like, ‘Oh, my God, that’s what it is?’”

Jost on Fatherhood

Beyond the humor, Jost has also opened up about his role as a stepfather to Johansson’s daughter, Rose. In a July 2024 interview with The New York Times, he shared how seeing Johansson as a mother played a role in their relationship.

“I think part of the reason I fell in love with her is she’s a great mom,” Jost said. “I’ve known Rose, my stepdaughter, since she was 2. It’s weird. You get to actually preview someone as a mom.”

From dumpster diving to joke swapping, Colin Jost continues to prove he’ll do just about anything for love—and laughs!
