BMW and Stellantis Step In After Federal $7,500 EV Tax Credit Ends

When the Trump administration announced the end of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, shoppers rushed to dealerships. Sales of electric vehicles spiked in the weeks leading up to September 30, when the credit officially expired. But now that the federal incentive is gone, automakers are left with unsold EVs and buyers less willing to pay full price.

To keep demand alive, BMW and Stellantis are stepping in with their own temporary rebate programs, effectively replacing the lost tax credit—at least for now.

Stellantis: Matching the Full Credit

According to Electrek, Stellantis is offering a $7,500 discount on its entire lineup of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. This includes:

  • Alfa Romeo Tonale
  • Chrysler Pacifica PHEV
  • Dodge Charger Daytona
  • Dodge Hornet R/T
  • Jeep Wrangler 4xe
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
  • Jeep Wagoneer S

However, Stellantis says the deal only applies to vehicles already in inventory, meaning the offer could disappear at any time. Buyers must take delivery by November 3, 2025 to qualify.

BMW: EV Discounts, Limited PHEV Support

BMW is also offering $7,500 off the MSRP of its fully electric models, but is less generous with its plug-in hybrids. The 750e xDrive sedan qualifies for a $5,000 discount, while the 550e and X5 xDrive50e are excluded.

A BMW spokesperson confirmed that the rebate is only available on vehicles financed through BMW Financial Services, not on leased vehicles. Buyers must take delivery by November 1, 2025 to secure the deal.

What It Means for Buyers

For anyone considering an EV or plug-in hybrid, these offers may help soften the blow of losing the federal tax credit. But the clock is ticking. Both BMW and Stellantis have tied their rebates to strict delivery deadlines, and Stellantis has further limited availability to vehicles already sitting on dealer lots.

With consumer hesitation around EV pricing still high, it’s clear automakers are scrambling to maintain momentum in the post-incentive market.
