Bigg Boss Fame Sanam Shetty Opens Up About Sexual Abuse in Tamil Cinema: ‘No one can say no, I am speaking from my experience’

After the Justice Hema Committee report in Kerala, Tamil actress Sanam Shetty took to social media against the assault of women in the Malayalam and Tamil film industries. She shared her personal experience with sexual abuse and spoke at large about its rampant incidents happening in the Tamil film industry.

She thanked the committee for bringing to light various issues of women in the Malayalam industry and urged that actions should be taken against crimes against women, mentioning the Kolkata rape and murder case.

Speaking at a function, Shetty said women should show more voice against abuse and not give in for work opportunities by compromising on their self-respect. She said that sexual and power abuse have victimized both men and women from the industry.

She urged women to come together and fight for themselves, stressing on unity and empowerment. The Justice Hema Commission report has elaborated on the problems that women in the film industry have been confronting, from a lack of basic facilities to economic discrimination to harassment like the ‘casting couch’.

The probe was set up following the abduction and assault of a leading Malayalam actress in 2017 in which actor Dileep and some others were named accused. Sanam Shetty, popular for her participation in Bigg Boss Tamil 2020, called out for the role women must play in standing together and not waiting for any man to take up their fights.

She underlined the need for women to stand in solidarity and have the courage to bring out and change the wrongs in the industry.
