Biden Faces Mounting Pressure as News Conference Falls Short

Joe Biden’s recent press conference, where he defended his fitness to run for US president, has not stopped criticism from within his own party. Three Democratic politicians have now joined the chorus calling for him to drop out of the race following his recent debate stumble with Donald Trump.

Despite a more stable performance during the press briefing, there were still notable errors, such as mistakenly calling Kamala Harris “Vice President Trump” and confusing Volodymyr Zelensky with “President Putin.”

As a result, the future of Biden’s candidacy remains uncertain, with the potential for more defections in the coming days. Some donors, including George Clooney, have withdrawn their financial support, citing concerns about his competency for another four-year term. The pressure on Biden is expected to increase, as every event will be closely scrutinized for any further slip-ups.

Democratic fundraisers and politicians like Jim Himes, Eric Sorensen, and Scott Peters have publicly called for Biden to step aside, with a total of 19 Democratic politicians now urging him to exit the race. Despite this, Biden remains determined to stay in the race, emphasizing that he is committed to finishing the job and addressing any doubts about his capability.

While some allies, such as UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, have expressed support for Biden, former President Trump took the opportunity to mock Biden for his mistakes. Biden’s resilience will be put to the test as he faces ongoing scrutiny and pressure to prove his suitability as a candidate for re-election.
