After a well-publicized breakup, Bethenny Frankel is opening up about her split from fiancé Paul Bernon. On her podcast “Just B with Bethenny Frankel,” the former “Real Housewives of New York City” star talked about their relationship. Frankel and Bernon reportedly ended their six-year relationship in March.
“I went through a breakup. I kept it to myself,” Frankel said. “I mourned alone, did therapy, and worked on myself. I didn’t think I needed to share it with anyone.” She explained that she wanted to handle the breakup privately and didn’t feel she owed anyone an explanation.
Bethenny Frankel also discussed her feelings when she saw media coverage of Bernon’s new relationship with Aurora Culpo. Bethenny Frankel says she started the breakup with Paul Bernon. While the breakup was mutual, Frankel said she “initiated” it.
“I wasn’t happy. Something needed to change,” Frankel said. “The relationship had challenges, and nobody dumped anybody. But I was scared because of my past and my abandonment issues.”
She added, “I get very scared when there’s any change with someone you depend on and love, but I knew it was the right thing. I made peace with it, and I was happy.” However, three months later, Bernon was seen with Culpo, sister of actress and model Olivia Culpo.
Bethenny Frankel said it was “gutting” to see all the media coverage of Bernon’s new relationship, feeling like she was “inside someone else’s relationship.”
“I saw headlines portraying me as the ex who had been replaced with a younger woman,” Frankel said. “It continued the narrative that he had moved on and gotten serious with someone new.” Despite their fast romance, Bernon and Culpo reportedly broke up after two months.
“I just want to say that I’m OK,” Frankel said. “It was rough because I had to experience the breakup twice, but worse the second time with all the details.” Bethenny Frankel shared that she messaged Olivia Culpo about the situation. Olivia’s kind response provided some comfort to Frankel.
“She was very nice, said she’s a fan, has all my books, and looks up to me,” Frankel said. “It was a nice warm blanket during this crazy time.” Frankel remains positive about her healing journey after the breakup with Bernon. “I am in therapy, working on myself,” Frankel said. “I am confident, single, independent, happy, and I will survive this.”
