Before Taylor Swift’s first performance in the German city of Gelsenkirchen, an American man who had threatened her on social media was taken into custody, and authorities stated on Thursday that he will remain there until her performances are completed.
According to a statement from the police, the 34-year-old accused stalker had a ticket to Swift’s performance at Gelsenkirchen’s Veltins-Arena on Wednesday. His name was not made public. They claimed that he was held at entry checks to the event because an early inquiry was unable to completely rule out a risk.
According to the police, the man had threatened Swift and her partner on social media. They say he was taken into custody after receiving information from the event’s organisers.
According to authorities, a local court ordered the suspected stalker to remain in custody until Saturday. They went on to say that Swift and the audience were never in danger. Around 60,000 people saw the concert on Wednesday night, and it went off without a hitch.
Prior to the performances, Gelsenkirchen honoured the singer on a “Walk of Fame” honouring local celebrities and temporarily renamed town “Swiftkirchen.” Swift has performances scheduled in Hamburg and Munich, two more German towns, following Gelsenkirchen.
