Tom Homan, the incoming Border Czar under the new administration, has revealed that he and his family have been the targets of death threats since his nomination. In a candid interview, Homan discussed the escalating threats, his commitment to addressing border security, and his plans to remain undeterred by intimidation.
A History of Threats
Homan, who previously served as the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is no stranger to such risks. “Even after retiring, I had U.S. Marshals protection for a long time,” he explained, attributing some of the animosity toward him to media portrayal and criticism of his enforcement policies, including family separations at the border.
While he initially did not take recent threats seriously, he now acknowledges the gravity of the situation. “After what I learned in the last 24 hours, I will start to take it more seriously,” Homan said, emphasizing his responsibility to protect his family.
Plans as Border Czar
Homan outlined his goals, including securing the border through transparent communication and rigorous enforcement of immigration laws. He stressed the necessity of large-scale deportation operations to send a clear message to those entering the U.S. illegally.
“If you don’t remove individuals who don’t qualify for asylum, you’re sending a message to the world that they can come here illegally without consequences,” Homan said. He also highlighted the broader impacts of border control, such as reducing fentanyl trafficking and human smuggling.
Threats from Domestic and Foreign Sources
The nature of the threats—whether domestic or foreign—remains unclear, but Homan urged the government to take swift action regardless of their origin. He referenced recent investigations into foreign actors like Iran for similar threats, underscoring the importance of protecting officials serving their country.
“No one—Republican or Democrat—should face threats for serving,” Homan stated, reaffirming his resolve to tackle the border crisis despite the risks.
Looking Ahead
As Homan prepares to assume his new role, he remains focused on his mission. “The border is out of control, and I’m the person they asked to fix it,” he said. Despite the personal challenges, he emphasized his commitment to executing his duties with integrity and determination.
With security threats ongoing, Homan and his family are hopeful for a resolution and increased safety during the holiday season.
