Even though the Polestar 3 just launched for the 2025 model year, the electric luxury SUV is already getting major updates for 2026. The biggest change is a switch from a 400-volt platform to a new 800-volt architecture, which unlocks faster charging and better overall efficiency.
With the new system, the Polestar 3 can now charge at speeds up to 350 kW. That means going from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes—about 25% faster than before. The SUV also ditches its old nickel-manganese-cobalt batteries in favor of new lithium-ion packs, boosting estimated range to 315 miles (EPA ratings are still pending).
Performance also sees a big jump. A new in-house rear motor brings more power across the lineup, which now comes in three trims: Rear Motor, Dual Motor, and Performance.
- Rear Motor: 329 hp / 354 lb-ft
- Dual Motor: 536 hp / 546 lb-ft
- Performance: 671 hp / 642 lb-ft, 0–60 mph in just 3.8 seconds
For comparison, the previous Performance trim took 4.5 seconds to reach 60 mph. Polestar’s tweaks also allow AWD models to disconnect the front motor when not needed, helping efficiency and range. Handling is sharper too, thanks to revised anti-roll bars and retuned steering.
Inside, the 2026 Polestar 3 gets a new computer processor that’s eight times faster than before, improving infotainment and driver-assist systems. Smartly, Polestar says it can also retrofit this hardware into 2025 models, so early buyers won’t miss out.
So far, these updates apply to models sold outside the U.S. A spokesperson told Car and Driver that North American details will be announced later, along with official pricing. For reference, the 2025 Polestar 3 starts at $68,900 and goes up to around $86,300 before options.
With faster charging, stronger motors, and smarter tech, the 2026 Polestar 3 looks like a serious step up in the premium EV SUV market.
